The Venetian Jewish Ghetto was the area of Venice in which Jews were compelled to live under the Venetian Republic. It is from its name, in the Venetian language, that the word "ghetto", used in many languages, is derived.

The Carnival of Venice (Italian: Carnevale di Venezia) is an annual festival, held in Venice, Italy.
Carnival starts around two weeks before Ash Wednesday and ends on Shrove Tuesday (Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras), the day before Ash Wednesday.
In 2010, from Saturday 6th February to Tuesday 16th February inclusive.
